Keeley Hunter grew up as a farm boy in rural New Zealand. He left the farm for boarding school and never really looked back. After graduating he went overseas, restless in his quest for a contented life. This is hampered by chronic illness, something he's dealt with all of his life. This is impacting on his work as a security engineer for banks and other institutions all over Europe. He is further affected by the sudden death of his partner and lover, Kristian, in an explosion that also injured Keeley. Failure to grieve and poor health have caused him to spiral downwards. Back in New Zealand he stays with old friends from school and plans a reluctant visit to the farm where he grew up. He encounters tragedy there as well. Meanwhile his business in Europe is also struggling with a persistent hacker who is disrupting some of their work and he must return to Germany to sort out this problem.
