In this live recording by L.A. Theatre Works, Richard Nelson's sympathetic script and Richard Dreyfuss's confident performance combine to give a human face to the most hated figure of the American Revolution, General Benedict Arnold. In this drama about betrayal, Dreyfuss is crotchety, rambling and stubborn, but most of all misunderstood. Succinctly narrated introductions and well-written scenes make it easy for the listener to follow the action. The play is supported by a strong cast of minor characters, notably Alexander Hamilton, although liner notes identifying these actors and their roles would have been welcome. D.B.
